CURBSIDE RECYCLING INFORMATION How to prepare recyclables: Lid and bottle tops must be removed; Put the lids in the trash. Smash all plastic containers. Labels do not need to be removed. All bottles and jars must be rinsed out and have no food residue left inside. Newspapers, phone books, and magazines can be bundled and tied or placed inside grocery bags. Place these items beside or on top of the recycle bin. How to put recyclables out for collection: Place recycling bin curbside the night before your collection day. Keep the bundled newspapers on top of the bottles and jars. Do not put recycling bins out on windy days, the bins will blow away. Do not put newspapers out on rainy days. Wet newsprint cannot be recycled. Recyclables should not be stored outside in the open. What can be recycled: Aluminum cans Steel & Bi-Metallic Cans Clear & Colored Glass #1 and #2 plastic bottles (numbers can be found inside the recycling triangle usually found on the bottom of the bottle) Newsprint, phone books, magazines, and junk mail. What not to recycle: Cookware Broken drinking glasses Pottery Window pane glass or any type of glass that is not a bottle or jar. Cereal or cardboard boxes Wire hangers Yogurt cups Coolwhip, deli or margarine containers Pill bottles Motor oil containers If you are recycling properly, you should be able to store recyclables inside your house without attracting ants or rodents. Following these guidelines will help us in recycling a greater percentage of our trash. Our goal in PA is to recycle 33% of the waste stream. This effort will save land, trees, and materials for the next generation.
